I’ve been asked this a few times over the years, and when I stop and think about it, I’ve never actually seen a woman working as a mold maker.
My answer: “Because very few women are interested.” Personally I have 3 daughters and I am here to tell you that they are not at all the least bit interested in mold making. Their eyes glaze over when I talk about it and I am quite certain that they have no idea what I am talking about.
There is also the simple fact that a lot of the work is not suitable for somebody who is rather short, lacking is muscles and disinterested in mechanical things. I’m sure that there are some outstanding female mold makers someplace, I’ve just never seen one.
This is not the result of sexism, it is just the way things are in the material world. Perhaps women would excel at certain tasks, such as mold polishing, programming, or CNC operation.
